Papers, 1728-1845.

This collection contains bills, receipts, indentures, deeds, legal documents, surveys, and letters compiled by various members of the Dorsey family from 1728-1845. Most of the bills and receipts document personal expenses including food, clothing, lumber, gunpowder, saddlery, and farm implement repair. Greenberry Dorsey purchased notably large quantities of cooking utensils, saddlery, and textiles. The indentures are primarily for land, although the Dorseys apparently also owned slaves. Many of the legal documents, deeds, surveys, and letters refer to numerous tracts of land and the disputes over estates and mortgages.
